Throughout March the Macquarie University Business Analytics Club and the Macquarie University Applied Finance Society collaborated to facilitate a Python Workshop series led by Business Analytics tutor Tuo Kai.
The Python Workshop series was split into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced workshops – aiming to give attendees a basic understanding of Python’s functions before continuing to the more advanced applications of Python.
The Beginner-level workshop introduced Python fundamentals such as variables, data types, and control structures, progressing to essential libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib for data manipulation and visualization. Participants gained proficiency in basic data analysis techniques, alongside Markdown usage in Jupyter environments, fostering effective documentation and communication of findings.
The Intermediate-level workshop explored time-series data visualization with Matplotlib and Seaborn, facilitating effective trend analysis. Participants also acquired skills in integrating ChatGPT within Jupyter Notebook for advanced natural language processing tasks, enhancing their data analysis capabilities.
The Advanced-level workshop delved into sophisticated machine-learning applications, covering techniques for implementing algorithms and optimizing model performance through hyperparameter tuning. Participants gained expertise in handling categorical and continuous data types, enabling efficient preprocessing and utilization for tackling real-world challenges.
The Applied Finance Society would like to thank the Macquarie University Business Analytics Club for assisting us in facilitating this workshop series, Tuo Kai for volunteering his time and running these workshops, as well as MUBAC and AFS members alike for attending. We look forward to seeing how you all utilise Python in the future!
