Investing in a Better Future with UniSuper

Last Monday evening the Macquarie University Applied Finance Society held its third event for the year – Investing in a Better Future with our sponsor, UniSuper. This event’s purpose was to give members a clear understanding of the considerations of a superannuation fund when planning for their members' retirement when not all members are the same and have different goals, as well as to understand the concept of sustainable investing and why it is gaining traction.

The event began with an opening address from the Applied Finance Society’s President, Yilmaz Ersoy, who briefly gave an introduction to UniSuper before moderating a panel consisting of Peter Chun (CEO of UniSuper), Rob Stewart (Portfolio Manager, Global Sustainable Equities) and Giacomo Tarantolo (Retirement Solutions Lead). The panel discussed UniSuper’s investment principles and philosophies, points of difference, retirement considerations, and views on current economic conditions and concluded with the growing emphasis on ESG considerations in the superannuation space.

The event then broke out into a networking session where Applied Finance Society members were able to network with the panellists and further discuss investing, career paths, and advice.

The Applied Finance Society would like to thank David Laurence for making this event possible, and to the Investing in a Better Future panel – Peter Chun, Rob Stewart and Giacomo Tarantolo for volunteering their valuable time!

A big thanks to Cheryl Kwon for these phenomenal photos as always!

The AFS Team wishes everyone a fun and productive mid-semester break, we look forward to seeing you at our events when university resumes! Keep an eye out for event announcements throughout the break!
